This is Teddy, a spectacular Maine Coon and a very gentle and affectionate cat. I wanted to put him in a colourful setting that would set off his wonderful coat. He looks amazing against the blue background.

This painting was inspired by seeing the Vincent Van Gogh painting 'A Basket Of Oranges'. I thought of Teddy and his love of sitting in baskets and decided that any still life would end up with a cat sitting on it! And he'd be much more beautiful than the oranges anyway.
