Bengal Kitten

May 27th, 2006

This Bengal kitten is called Kirby and he lives in the USA with his owners Terri and Rich and his feline friends Kiyah and Priss. Those huge ears and that cool Bengal expression made me want to paint him. He’s not quite finished yet, he still needs his whiskers added.

And here he is with his whiskers and other details finished. This is a watercolour and acrylic painting on watercolour paper.

Siamese Cuddles

May 20th, 2006

There’s nothing nicer than sharing a cuddle with your best friend. These two siamese cats are enjoying a warm nap together and I couldn’t resist painting them.

They’ve been painted in acrylics on watercolour paper with a series of loose glazed layers which gives lots of subtle colours and tones. Have a look at the close up detail of the fur in front of the ear below. There are lots of soft shades of gold, cream, pink, green, blue and brown.

Monitor Lizard

May 16th, 2006

This is Sweetpea, a fabulous brown Burmese sleeping peacefully on the computer monitor. Don’t cats always know the warmest places to sleep?

Pretty Blue Girl

May 14th, 2006

This little cat is Cora, a British Blue kitten. She’s sitting under a Japanese pagoda in the garden and the sunlight is falling through the leaves of the plant next to her. I loved the colours, the blues, greys and violets in her fur and in the slate all around her and the warm yellows and golds in the pot and in her fabulous eyes.

The Artists Model Reclining

May 10th, 2006

This is Casper, one of my favourite feline friends. He’s a superb hunter, the scourge of the local rodent and rabbit population. Although there are so many rabbits where he lives that some unkind folks have said that all he needs to do is lie down with his mouth open and wait for something to hop in.

Now you might think that having an excellent hunter with ample opportunity to feed himself would mean there would be no need for tins. You’d be wrong of course! Casper expects his meals on time no matter how many tasty extras he’s had. That’s my boy!
He is also a very sweet, gentle and affectionate cat with his human friends. Truly a king among cats.

He’s painted in acrylics on fine linen canvas.
