Sienna and her babies

September 26th, 2006

This is a commissioned painting of Sienna, a beautiful Burmese cat and her litter of Tonkinese kittens. They are so sweet and they make a wonderful picture of happy feline family life. I started with sketch ideas.

Then I sketched out the pose on to canvas and using very light layers of acrylic I started to build up the dark layers of Sienna herself, the golds in the background and the darker noses and ears of the kittens.

Sienna and her babies - the start of the painting.

Then I concentrated on Sienna, bringing her form to life on the canvas. Now to start on the kittens……

And here is the finished painting with the kttens fully developed and the background deepened.

Emma Admires Her Reflection

September 10th, 2006

Emma a beautiful Bengal cat admiring her own reflection.

Emma, a beautiful Bengal cat, is staring at her reflection in the door plate. Her expression is so intense, I wonder what she sees?

I painted her in acrylics on paper and I thought she deserved rich luscious colour too. You can see my original model here on flickr.

Here’s a close up of the painting and her wonderful intense eyes.

Society Of Feline Artists London Exhibition

September 6th, 2006

The London SOFA show opened yesterday. The private view was a lot of fun! It was very well attended and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves despite it being a hot day! I took lots of photos. If you’d like to see them here they are…
