SketchbookTaz In The SinkJanuary 31st, 2007
This is Taz, a lovely young brown tabby Maine Coon cat who lives with Jayne and his other feline pals in Manchester. He looks wonderful curled up in the sink, especially with those amazing eyes gazing up at us. This is the sketch of the painting I’m planning to do of him. And here he is finished. I painted him in acrylics on Fabriano paper. He is a 16 x12 painting. I love this pose and his wonderful face and I might paint him again as a large canvas. Sienna and her babiesSeptember 26th, 2006 This is a commissioned painting of Sienna, a beautiful Burmese cat and her litter of Tonkinese kittens. They are so sweet and they make a wonderful picture of happy feline family life. I started with sketch ideas. ![]()
Then I sketched out the pose on to canvas and using very light layers of acrylic I started to build up the dark layers of Sienna herself, the golds in the background and the darker noses and ears of the kittens.
Then I concentrated on Sienna, bringing her form to life on the canvas. Now to start on the kittens…… And here is the finished painting with the kttens fully developed and the background deepened. Click the image to see a close up detail Big Beautiful EyesAugust 1st, 2006
This is a sketch of Karli (aka Dovepeak Paintedlaydi) a gorgeous tortie and white Devon Rex cat. She is such a cutie and those beautiful enormous yellow green eyes makes her wonderful to paint! I think her breed name is very appropriate. She lives in Devon with Sarah and Ian and the rest if the feline family. Here is the finished painting of Big Beautiful Eyes. It’s a small picture, 8×8 inches, painted in watercolour and acrylics on watercolour paper in very light washes to keep the delicacy of the sketch and the impact of her amazing eyes. What is it with Bengal cats and sinks?June 8th, 2006 This is Nala, a bengal cat with a deep and abiding passion for water. Bengal owners around the world will recognise the symptoms, an obsession with sinks, taps and baths and an uncanny ability to turn on taps! I can certainly sympathise, it seems that every 10 minutes our snow bengal Ming is in the sink busily trying to turn on the tap and help himself. This is despite the expensive cat fountains we have all around the house especially for water loving cats! But ff course it’s much more fun to help yourself. Nala spends a lot of her time in the sink and she makes such a pretty picture looking up with her big gold eyes and surrounded by the reflections in the steel.
Nala in the sink is painted in acrylics on watercolour paper. Click the image to see a close up detail of the painting. |
