Under the Blanket

There’s something about a cat tucked under a blanket that feels almost sacred. That self-made den. That look that says, “I am warm. I am safe. I am absolutely not moving.”

This Siamese appeared like that one evening, wrapped in a soft lilac throw, with only his face visible. The contrast stopped me in my tracks, deep chocolate fur, cool shadows, and those impossibly blue eyes glowing out from the dark.

I painted this piece on a gold-prepared board, which gives the whole painting a quiet warmth beneath the surface. The whiskers were scratched back through the wet oil paint to reveal that gold underneath. It’s a small detail, but when the light hits them, they catch and shimmer, just like real whiskers flashing in the light.

It’s only 8 × 8 inches, but it has that close, intimate feeling I love in small works. The kind you lean in towards. If you live with a Siamese, you’ll recognise that look. Half hidden. Fully aware. Always watching.
See him in the gallery….
