Velvet Paws – A New Watercolour Painting
There’s something so graceful about a cat on the move—quiet, elegant, completely in their own world. This new painting captures that moment: a tabby cat walking past on velvet soft paws.
She’s painted in black watercolour on handmade paper. I used a wet-on-wet technique, letting the paint flow naturally across the surface. It sinks into the texture, softens as it dries, and creates those gentle, organic tabby cat markings. It’s always a bit of magic watching it happen.
The paper itself is special too—handmade with beautiful deckle edges on all four sides. I must admit, I love those ragged edges. They give the piece a raw, natural charm.

This original painting is available in the shop. Or if you’d love something similar of your own cat, I’d be delighted to create a custom piece—just get in touch here and we can chat about it.
